Disdero's #1&Btr Timbers are FOHC selected for appearance, and kiln dried to 19% or less 1" from all surfaces.
Rough green timbers go into dry kilns full sawn. There will be some shrinkage during the process, usually 1/16"-1/8" in thickness and 1/8"-1/4" in width (this may vary slightly). Timbers will come out with a suntan appearance and can have a faded mark where kiln stick were placed. There may be checking to some pieces. Our timbers are dried with state of the art conventional kilns utilizing a computer controlled low pressure steam system or microwave ń Radio Frequency Vacuum (RFV).
Green vs. Kiln Dried Timbers -- We feel there is no comparison. Not only is a green timber much heavier than a KD Timber, it will check far more severely after installation. It may develop mold problems, warp or twist. There are also problems with stains and other finishes applied to green timbers.
