Alder

Western Alder grows in the Pacific Northwest where it thrives on the abundant moisture and frequent rains of Oregon and Washington. A prolific, fast growing hardwood, alder is manufactured into many interior finish products including molding, millwork, patterns and cabinetry. The natural beauty of alder will add warmth and solid-wood charm to any room in a house. Alder is moderately strong, stable when dried, easy to work with, and versatile in its uses.

Disdero Lumber stocks Appearance Grade Alder, a knotty product containing tight knots and other natural characteristics. Knot size and knot quality are limited depending on the width of the board. Occasional trimming of an undesirable characteristic may be required. Alder of this grade is recommended when a rustic, knotty appearance is desired.

Alder has the following characteristics:

Kiln-dried alder is stable, moderately strong, and durable.
It contains no pitch, mineral stain or dark wood.
Alder has a light tan or honey color that is very uniform. There is no color difference in the heartwood and sapwood.
Alder stains and finishes easily and can be colored to match many other hardwoods.
It machines well and glues easily.

Alder has a fine grain similar to cherry, birch or maple.
Alder is an excellent choice for interior finish of all types, furniture, paneling, molding and cabinetry.
